The famous quilt was donated to the Library in February 2006 by D’Andre Davis Mitchell – member of the People of Color Quilters -San Diego. A Picture is worth a thousand words when it comes to this quilt. Amazing! The Friends want to do what we can to preserve this precious quilt.
It is showing signs of wear and the need for its protection is more apparent than ever.
We are raising funds for
-Framing and Matting the quilt
-Preserving the quilt, UV protection, Airtight construction
-Professional mounting within the Malcolm X library
Once this gets done it will ensure this valuable piece of cultural art will be available to enjoy for generations
